One of the big things people miss about the student loan debate is exactly this, that most student loans are held by the middle and upper-middle class. It’s like the home mortgage interest deduction, it mostly helps people in the middle and upper parts of the economic ladder. Poor people don’t get to go into debt like that.

I think it is because it is one of the few large things Biden could get done without the senate. A stimulus for working people, sadly, has to go through congress. I agree that it isn’t good to look to pursue this before other types of stimulus pass though. I’m all for stronger social services as a country, but in the midst of a global pandemic and historic unemployment, how is it that canceling student debt keeps rising to the top of the discussion?
