Because Reddit is disproportionately well off college students who think that things that directly benefit them are helping the proletariat for some reason. There are literally dozens of better things to focus on that wouldn’t end up giving 65% of the benefits to the top 40% of the population.
I often wonder whether or not during my lifetime I’ll see the USA revamp and modernize itself a la New Deal. The government structure and constitution are rapidly aging and it is clear that the rules, regulations, checks, balances, and norms of the past simply do not hold up to the modern challenges that the nation faces. I am curious to see what the Americans do with this challenge.
