That’s just silly. In our age of high-speed internet and video conferencing, which has been around a while already, it is not necessary to take a 3-week trip to attend a summit anymore. So if oil basically is the fuel of our economy and oil is polluting the air through the use of machines, why not make machines that absorb the C02 making an industry out of that while not destroying the economy… or the Earth. Well, that is just wrong. When you capture CO2, you generally do not store it as just CO2, except in rare cases. You can combine it with CaO to CACO3 which is calcite… the main ingredient in concrete so it can be “stored” as a building material. With the case of storing it as CO2, it is often injected into oil reservoirs to improve recovery, but ad the oil industry needs CO2 for this, they don’t want it to escape back to the atmosphere, but rather keep it in the ground in a (semi)closed system… so it serves an economic purpose. Oxy is currently working with a CO2 capture company on a long-term trial of pulling CO2 from the air for just this purpose.
