While natural gas is still a fossil fuel, it is much cleaner across the board than coal-fired plants. After we have eliminated coal from our power grid we can then pour our focus into replacing natural gas generation. During that time we will see massive advances in solar panels as graphene becomes more commonplace.
It’s going to be crazy in the next five years. Production panels are at about 23% efficiency right now and there are several companies out there working on new panels and they have working prototypes that are around 40%. One company actually produced a 43% efficient panel three years ago using carbon nanotubes.
