People trust science, but many people don’t trust scientists. These endorsements and many of the comments in this thread are perfect examples of why. None of us has the time and intelligence to understand everything, so we have to decide what to believe partially based on who is saying it. When the people saying X obviously hold you in contempt, it’s easy (and even rational) to discount X. There’s motivated reasoning on all sides.

Plus, unfortunately, distrust of scientists is becoming an element of the globalist vs. individualist class war that is raging in America. Scientists are largely globalists, so people who distrust globalism naturally distrust scientists. This is reasonable because scientists (and the globalist class in general) are trying to crush the individualist class (and vice versa).
