My dad died 4 years ago. Right after the funeral, I snagged all his plaid button-down shirts (10 of them!) and have spent the last few weeks turning them into a quilt for my mother. I had hoped to do it sooner, but a lot of life happened in the interim and it was just too painful for me to work on it for a while. But I’m finishing up the binding this week.
OMG, I’m overwhelmed at the response to this! I’ve made more quilts than I can remember, but this one is super special to me and I can’t wait to give it. I’ve cried into the fabric as I cut the pieces, as I sewed them together, and as I’ve closed the binding and written the label. The back is wood grain flannel because he loved to make things with his hands.
